Primes vélo en Belgique : tout ce que vous devez savoir !

Bicycle bonuses in Belgium: everything you need to know!

Whether you're an individual or a professional considering purchasing an electric bike, Belgium offers incentives and other benefits to support your transition to greener mobility.

What are these incentives, how much do they cost, and how do you get them? Treebike tells you everything in this article!

Regions encourage the use of eco-friendly modes of transportation by offering financial incentives for the purchase of bicycles, whether electric or not. These incentives are calculated based on the cost of the bike and the applicant's financial situation.
In Wallonia:
Wallonia offers financial assistance to people who invest in a bicycle for practical travel, such as commuting to work, shopping, or taking children to school. All types of bicycles are eligible for this incentive.
The amount of the incentive varies between 20% and 30% of the price of the bicycle, including all taxes (VAT). Job seekers can benefit from an incentive of up to 40%. The amount of the grant is adjusted based on the type of bike purchased and the applicant's financial situation, with a ceiling ranging from €50 to €1,250.
You can view the amounts applicable for each situation by clicking here: https://www.wallonie.be/sites/default/files/conditions_et_montants_prime_velo.pdf

However, there are a few conditions that must be met:

  • you must be of legal age,

  • you must be resident in Wallonia,

  • you must have purchased your bike between July 1, 2020, and December 31, 2024,

  • you must use at least 40% of your commute,

  • you must have purchased the bike from a professional, and you must be able to provide an invoice.

In Brussels:

Through the Bruxell'Air grant, the Brussels-Capital Region encourages drivers to ditch their cars in favor of more sustainable modes of transportation. The maximum amount of this bonus is €900 and depends on your personal situation and income.

In Flanders:

Flanders does not offer any bonus or tax reduction for the purchase of a bicycle, whether electric or electric. However, schemes are available at more limited levels.
For example, there is the bicycle bonus from the CCFI (Communauté de communes de Flandre intérieure). This bonus is intended for adult residents of the 50 municipalities comprising the CCFI and can amount to up to 20% of the purchase price of a bicycle or electric kit. However, a cap applies; For example, for an electric bike, the premium is set at €200.

To benefit from this premium, you must purchase your bike from a retailer located within the CCFI (French Chamber of Commerce and Industry).

For online purchases, the premium will only be granted for the purchase of a cargo bike or a bike adapted for people with disabilities.

Regarding cargo bikes:

Since January 2024, Wallonia has been offering companies a "cargo bike premium" for the purchase of equipment specifically designed for cycle logistics activities, including bicycles, cargo bikes, and bicycle trailers. These activities include the transport of goods and the provision of professional services requiring the movement of equipment.
The premium amount is set at 50% of the invoice amount excluding VAT. The ceiling depends on the equipment you purchase, whether it is used or new. For example, for a new cargo bike with electric assistance, the ceiling is set at €5,000.

The purchase must have been made after January 1, 2024.
